If the past year has taught us anything, it’s to be flexible. Not in the sense of bendy gymnasts, but being able to roll with the constant wave of change.
Many triathletes who are goal driven – that is, need a race in order to feel motivated to train, have found it difficult to keep moving forward. Not only that, they are frustrated by the lack of certainty and clarity about whether races will run, and how they will work.
Meanwhile, race directors are trying their best to figure out the changing landscape of dates, locations, permissions and health protocols…along with keeping their businesses afloat.
We’re looking at it this way. Staying fit and healthy is a good thing for life, not just for an event. Endurance athletes need to be strong physically and mentally for their races, but also for their lives. This may not be how we envisioned the world to be, but by continuing to train and building our resilience and toughness, we will be better prepared for whatever lies ahead.
Regardless of how well we are prepared, we only have control over so many parts of our race. The uncontrollable things, like the weather or the fitness of our competitors are things we simply have to roll with.
If we are able to race in July – let’s celebrate. If it’s August – let’s celebrate then. And if we are still doing virtual races…let’s celebrate that. By continuing to train and stay the course as endurance athletes, we will be better for it no matter how or when.
At CL Performance Training, we’re working towards a better tomorrow and enjoying today – and getting stronger with every virtual core, strength, TRX, cycling or dryland swim class. Feel free to join us!
